First of all, I recommend scheduling a complimentary color consultation with a color specialist. This takes under 15 Minutes and can answer all of your questions.

Now, what are your options regarding going grey gracefully? One option depending on what shade your colored hair is, would be to switch to low lights or highlights instead of all over color. If you have dark salt & pepper hair that you’ve lightened to blond, lowlights can be added to break up the solid color. Along the way a glaze can be applied to the remaining blond to darken the tone some. Lowlights or highlights will cover some of your greys and allow more to grow out. Each visit you can put fewer and fewer lowlights or highlights, until most of your grey hair is unveiled.

photo from goinggraylookinggreat.com - the author has written a book all about going gray!

I usually recommend a bob or wedge style as we will want to hide grey under the top of the solid form cut. I first switch the part to the opposite side. Then just color the part line and the crown area, the split area that’s all over the place when you wake up every morning. You can brush Aveda’s deposit only color into the side area or add lowlights if you wish. This goes on for several months depending how thick the guest hair turns out to be. Eventually a new layered style is born. At this time we can foil is some light highlights in the ends if necessary.

This whole process takes a least 6 or more months but can be stopped at any time to go to plan B: artificial color removal; not so much fun and hard on your hair. If you are in this situation there are several options available for you, but we will need a consultation in the salon before we decide which is right for you.

Are you ready for this? We don’t pay commission. Not on service sales, and not on product sales.

Have you ever walked into a store, and sales people accost you as soon as you step through the door? We all know that feeling and we don’t like it. That’s why we have designed our system to be team oriented and more enjoyable for our customers. How? We pay our staff by salary.

If you have ever been to Enright and Company you’ve probably noticed a pleasant feeling as soon as you walk in. Our Guest Services folks greet you, and offer you coffee, tea, or water with a smile. As you come further into the salon, everyone is smiling, laughing and having a good time. You should feel as though we are inviting you into our home as old friends.

Our team pay allows us to be more flexible to your needs. If your stylist is sick, on leave, vacation, or for any reason not available when you need them, try someone else. We don’t mind. In fact, encourage you to try it! Because we are not focused on individual achievement in sales, we are more focused on you. We like to call our job “being your day maker”.

This non-competitive client-focused mentality extends to products as well. When a team member is recommending a product it’s because they feel it’s the best product for you based on their experience and not because they are trying to make a commission on the sale. It’s the same on services too!

It’s not uncommon for you to receive services from several people. Unlike many salons you’ll notice stylists helping each other out. One stylist may apply your color, while a different stylist may come by and offer a hand massage. Your hair cut and pedicure may be with two different people, and your wax with yet another. We hope that you will feel comfortable with our entire staff and look forward to your visits!

So next time you feel like trying a new stylist, just let us know. After all, variety is the spice of life!

Lately people have asked me, “Larry, is there really any difference between your Aveda color and a store bought color?” (Or even natural herbal color from the Co-op health food market?) During these trying economic times, people may try color at home to save time and money. Our staff has seen many at home dyes where the color result is either too dark or too brassy. This usually results in a “corrective color” service that costs extra time and money.

Store bought “box” color often comes out opaque and gets darker as you look down the hair shaft. It generally leaves the hair feeling dry, with little or no shine. There are chemicals in the color for shelf life and to allow for lift because they are only using one level of peroxide. Natural color from the co-op seems to be even more drying to the hair.

In my professional opinion, Aveda’s hair color is superior even to other professional color lines. It contains a “signature blend of protective plant oils: organic sunflower, castor, jojoba, coconut and babassau oils… (the blend) conditions hair and infuses it with amazing shine.” Patented green tea and red tea extracts create a broader spectrum and provide powerful anti-oxidant properties to help preserve the hair color formula naturally. The level of shine and dimension allows for a more healthy, natural look.

Aveda hair color is gentle on the environment and is customizable for every guest. No two heads are the same, and color can be adjusted to be warmer, cooler, lighter or darker even a fraction of a level.

Why use the same color as the person next to you or risk staining your bathroom tiles and towels?

Please visit us and we will give you a complimentary color consultation and provide you with a no-commitment price quotation to make life easier and more colorful!

I know you will love your hair.

AVEDA’s new Invati product line is gaining media attention for its rave reviews from both salon professionals and daily users.

Invati is powered by the traditional wisdom of Ayurveda, and uses many herbs from organic and biodynamic farms. The word ‘invati’ means ‘invigorate’ in Sanskrit. The Invati system consists of Exfoliating Shampoo, Thickening Conditioner, and a treatment, Scalp Revitalizer.

Invati Exfoliating Shampoo cleanses and revitalizes the scalp using wintergreen derived salicylic acid to remove sebum buildup and product residue. (Salicylic acid is commonly used in acne products to remove excess oil and buildup from the pores.) Invati Exfoliating Shampoo is in no way gritty like many exfoliating body care products! It is a smooth, silky shampoo with a fantastic fragrance that is similar to AVEDA’s Comforting Tea which you may have sampled at the salon: minty, warm and earthy!

Invati Thickening Conditioner penetrates the hair to strengthen with sugar beet derived amino acids and soy protein. Macadamia nut oil adds softness and shine. The scent of the conditioner is truly heavenly: sweet and spicy with notes of vanilla, mint, and ginger – think chai-infused botanicals. Both the shampoo and conditioner use AVEDA’s patented Densiplex ™– an invigorating blend of herbs, including turmeric and ginseng to energize the hair follicles when massaged in.

Invati Scalp Revitalizer is the power player of the Invati system. This treatment is sprayed on the scalp twice daily for maximum benefits. AVEDA recommends 8 sprays on each side of the head per application. For very fine hair, this amount may cause the roots to appear greasy. If the recommended amount is too heavy for your hair, try one fewer spray on each side until you find an amount that works well for your hair.

When used together as recommended, the Invati system reduces hair loss due to breakage by 33%! Right away you might notice less hair going down the drain, or getting caught in your brush. Invati invites you to “keep the hair you have”!

If you would like to try the Invati system in the salon, ask for a Botanical Therapy Treatment for Thinning Hair. This treatment takes about half an hour and features a refreshing scalp massage and detox which preps the hair and scalp for the Invati product line!
